About Prediabetes

Prediabetes is a state of higher-than-normal blood sugar that has not yet crossed the threshold for type 2 diabetes. It is diagnosed by a fasting glucose of 100–125 mg/dL or A1c of 5.7–6.4%. Many people have no symptoms but are already developing insulin resistance. Without intervention, roughly one in three progresses to diabetes within five years. The most effective treatment is sustained weight loss, regular aerobic and resistance exercise, and improvements in diet quality; metformin is sometimes added for higher-risk patients.
