About DOT / commercial driver physical
The DOT medical exam follows Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration standards and certifies whether a commercial driver is medically qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle. It includes blood pressure, vision, hearing, urinalysis, and a focused exam, plus structured assessment of cardiovascular, neurologic, respiratory, endocrine, and behavioral conditions. Drivers with hypertension, diabetes on insulin, sleep apnea, seizure history, or cardiac disease may require additional documentation or a shorter certification period. Only a certified medical examiner listed on the National Registry can sign the medical certificate.
