About Pre-surgical clearance

Pre-surgical clearance documents that a patient's medical conditions are optimized for the proposed procedure and anesthesia. It reviews cardiac, pulmonary, renal, endocrine, and bleeding risks and identifies medications that need to be held or bridged perioperatively (anticoagulants, GLP-1 agonists, certain diabetes drugs). Targeted testing — EKG, CBC, BMP, type and screen — is ordered based on age, comorbidities, and surgical risk rather than reflexively. The result is a written letter summarizing risk and any recommended modifications for the surgical and anesthesia teams.
