About Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory facial skin disorder characterized by central facial redness, flushing, telangiectasias, and inflammatory papules and pustules; some patients develop ocular involvement or, less commonly, phymatous thickening. Triggers include heat, sunlight, alcohol, spicy foods, and stress. Daily management emphasizes gentle skin care, broad-spectrum sunscreen, and trigger avoidance. Topical metronidazole, azelaic acid, ivermectin, and brimonidine target different features; oral doxycycline at sub-antimicrobial doses and laser therapy for vascular changes are useful adjuncts.
