About Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated disease that accelerates skin cell turnover, producing well-demarcated, scaly plaques most often on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back. It is associated with psoriatic arthritis, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, and inflammatory bowel disease. Treatment depends on severity and body-surface involvement: topical corticosteroids and vitamin D analogs for limited disease; phototherapy for moderate cases; and systemic biologic agents targeting TNF-α, IL-17, or IL-23 pathways for moderate-to-severe disease or joint involvement.
