Dermatologists diagnose and treat diseases of the skin, hair, and nails — from acne, eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea to skin cancers (basal and squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma), inflammatory and autoimmune skin disease, hair disorders, and pigmentation problems. They perform skin biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, phototherapy, and Mohs micrographic surgery for high-risk skin cancers, and prescribe topical, oral, and biologic therapies. Annual skin checks are particularly important for patients with risk factors for skin cancer.
