Infectious disease specialists evaluate and treat complex, recurrent, drug-resistant, or unusual infections — including HIV, hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis, endocarditis, osteomyelitis, prosthetic-joint infections, post-transplant infections, fevers of unknown origin, and travel-related illnesses. They also guide antimicrobial selection and stewardship, manage pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV, and coordinate care for patients on long-term IV antibiotic regimens.
