A licensed clinician reviews your iron studies and symptoms and issues the IV iron order and referral to an outpatient infusion center near you, where the infusion is given.
How it works
- Share your ferritin and iron labs if you have them, plus your symptoms and history. If you do not have labs, the clinician orders them.
- Your clinician confirms iron deficiency and whether IV iron is the right route rather than oral iron.
- The order and referral are issued with the product, dosing, and clinical justification your infusion center and insurer need.
- You schedule at the infusion center, and Ondoc handles follow-up labs afterward.

About Iron infusion order
An iron infusion order arranges for intravenous iron at an outpatient infusion center in patients who cannot adequately repleted with oral iron — those with malabsorption (IBD, celiac, bariatric surgery), intolerance, ongoing losses, late pregnancy, chronic kidney disease, or severe deficiency requiring faster replenishment. Available preparations include iron sucrose, ferric carboxymaltose, ferric derisomaltose, and ferumoxytol; selection depends on dose, infusion time, and tolerability. Pre-infusion labs include ferritin, iron studies, and renal function; common transient effects include mild headache and brief hypophosphatemia.
