About Type 2 diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which the body becomes resistant to insulin and the pancreas can no longer keep blood sugar in range. Persistent high glucose damages small blood vessels and nerves, raising the risk of heart disease, kidney failure, vision loss, and foot ulcers. Risk rises with age, family history, excess weight, and inactivity. Early stages are often silent and detected on a hemoglobin A1c. Management combines nutrition, physical activity, weight loss, and medications such as metformin, GLP-1 agonists, or SGLT-2 inhibitors.
