About Plantar fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is inflammation and microtearing of the plantar fascia at its attachment to the heel bone. It produces sharp medial heel pain that is worst with the first steps in the morning or after periods of rest. Contributing factors include sudden increases in activity, prolonged standing on hard surfaces, tight calves, flat or high-arched feet, and obesity. Treatment is conservative for most: targeted stretching of the calf and plantar fascia, supportive footwear, night splints, activity modification, NSAIDs, and physical therapy; injections and shockwave therapy are options for stubborn cases.
