Arthritis is inflammation of one or more joints, with many distinct causes. Osteoarthritis — the most common form — is a degenerative wear-and-load disease that produces pain with activity, morning stiffness lasting under 30 minutes, and gradual loss of motion, especially in the knees, hips, hands, and spine. Inflammatory arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, spondyloarthritis) causes prolonged morning stiffness, swelling, and systemic features and requires specialist care. Initial management of osteoarthritis combines weight management, structured exercise, physical therapy, topical and oral analgesics, and joint injections when needed.
