About Migraines

Migraine is a primary headache disorder characterized by recurrent, often unilateral, throbbing head pain that lasts hours to days and is accompanied by nausea, photophobia, and phonophobia. Some patients experience visual or sensory aura before the headache. Common triggers include sleep changes, hormonal cycles, stress, dehydration, and certain foods. Acute attacks respond to NSAIDs, triptans, or gepants taken early; preventive therapy is considered when attacks are frequent or disabling and may include beta-blockers, topiramate, anti-CGRP monoclonal antibodies, or onabotulinumtoxinA for chronic migraine.
