About Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism is an overactive thyroid producing excess hormone, accelerating the body's metabolism. Common symptoms include weight loss despite normal eating, rapid or irregular heartbeat, heat intolerance, sweating, tremor, anxiety, and difficulty sleeping. Graves' disease is the leading cause in younger adults; toxic nodules are more common with age. It is diagnosed with a suppressed TSH plus elevated free T4 or T3. Treatment options include antithyroid drugs such as methimazole, radioactive iodine ablation, or thyroidectomy, depending on cause and patient preference.
