About High cholesterol

High cholesterol means too much LDL (“bad”) cholesterol or triglycerides are circulating in the blood, where they can deposit inside artery walls and form plaque. Over years this narrows arteries and raises the risk of heart attack and stroke. Most people feel nothing — it is detected on a routine lipid panel. Genetics, diet, weight, thyroid function, and certain medications all influence levels. Treatment usually begins with dietary changes, exercise, and weight management, with statins or other lipid-lowering drugs added when risk is elevated.
