About Metabolic syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of findings — abdominal obesity, elevated blood pressure, high triglycerides, low HDL, and high fasting glucose — that together significantly increase the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Having any three of the five components meets the definition. The underlying driver is insulin resistance, often linked to excess visceral fat. Management targets each component: weight loss, a Mediterranean-style diet, regular exercise, blood pressure and lipid control, and treatment of any prediabetes or sleep apnea that may be present.
