About Eczema flare

An eczema flare is a sudden worsening of atopic dermatitis with increased redness, itching, oozing, or thickened skin, often triggered by irritants (fragrances, harsh soaps), allergens, weather changes, infection, or stress. Flares respond best to early intervention: short courses of topical corticosteroids of appropriate potency for the body area, ample bland emollient, and gentle cleansing. Superinfection with staph or HSV (eczema herpeticum) should be considered when crusting, pustules, or rapid worsening occurs. Long-term control depends on consistent moisturization and trigger management.
