About Hypothyroidism management
Hypothyroidism management is built around once-daily levothyroxine, taken on an empty stomach 30–60 minutes before food, calcium, iron, or acid-suppressing medications, which all impair absorption. The starting dose is age- and weight-based, and adjustments are guided by TSH measured every 6–8 weeks until stable, then annually. Brand-to-generic substitution and pregnancy may require dose changes. Combination therapy with T3 is reserved for selected patients who remain symptomatic despite normalized TSH on standard therapy.
