Pulmonologists diagnose and treat diseases of the lungs and respiratory system — asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, sarcoidosis, sleep-disordered breathing, chronic cough, and lung cancer. They use spirometry and complete pulmonary function testing, bronchoscopy, sleep studies, and advanced imaging. Subspecialty practice includes critical care, sleep medicine, interventional pulmonology, lung transplant, and pulmonary rehabilitation programs.
