About Trichomoniasis treatment visit
A trichomoniasis visit reviews symptoms, partner history, and contraindications, and prescribes oral metronidazole — 500 mg twice daily for 7 days in women (more effective than single-dose regimens) and a single 2 g dose acceptable in men. All sexual partners should be treated concurrently to prevent re-infection, and alcohol should be avoided during therapy. Re-testing is recommended in 3 months because of high reinfection rates, and screening for other STIs and HIV should accompany the visit.
