An inhaler refill or evaluation reviews current symptom control, rescue-inhaler use, recent exacerbations, and inhaler technique — often the largest single fixable contributor to poor control. Devices vary widely (MDI, DPI, soft-mist, nebulizer) and patient-device match matters. The visit aligns therapy with current asthma or COPD guidelines: inhaled corticosteroid–containing therapy as the foundation in most asthma, long-acting bronchodilator combinations in COPD, and step-up or step-down based on control. Spacer use, written action plans, and vaccination are routine.
