About Sleep apnea evaluation

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is repeated upper-airway collapse during sleep, causing oxygen drops, fragmented sleep, and daytime fatigue. Risk factors include obesity, large neck circumference, male sex, age, and craniofacial anatomy. Untreated OSA contributes to hypertension, atrial fibrillation, stroke, heart failure, and accidents. Screening tools such as STOP-BANG identify candidates for home or in-lab sleep testing. First-line treatment is positive airway pressure (CPAP); alternatives include mandibular advancement devices, weight loss, positional therapy, and selected surgical or hypoglossal nerve stimulation options.
