About ADHD evaluation

ADHD evaluation in adults reviews developmental and academic history, current functional impairment across settings, and rules out conditions that mimic or coexist with ADHD — sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, substance use, thyroid dysfunction, and trauma. Structured tools such as the ASRS and DIVA-5 support the diagnosis. Treatment combines education, behavioral strategies, and pharmacotherapy: stimulant medications (methylphenidate, amphetamine) are the most effective; non-stimulants (atomoxetine, viloxazine, clonidine ER, guanfacine ER) are alternatives when stimulants are contraindicated or not tolerated.
