About UTI quick visit
Uncomplicated urinary tract infection in non-pregnant adults can usually be diagnosed clinically from a focused history of dysuria, frequency, urgency, and suprapubic discomfort without flank pain, fever, or vaginal symptoms. Empiric treatment options include nitrofurantoin for 5 days, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole for 3 days where resistance is low, or single-dose fosfomycin. Pyridium provides short-term symptom relief. Fever, flank pain, vomiting, pregnancy, recurrent infection, or recent urologic procedures change the evaluation and treatment plan and require additional assessment.
