Prediabetes
Blood sugar higher than normal but not yet diabetes.
Prediabetes is defined as an A1C of 5.7-6.4%, fasting glucose 100-125 mg/dL, or 2-hour OGTT 140-199 mg/dL. Without intervention, roughly 1 in 3 people with prediabetes develop type 2 diabetes within 5 years; weight loss and metformin both lower that risk.
