The 'bad' cholesterol that can build up in arteries and raise heart-attack risk.
Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol carries cholesterol through the blood and can deposit it in artery walls. High LDL is one of the strongest modifiable risk factors for heart attack and stroke. Most adults target an LDL below 100 mg/dL; people with existing heart disease often aim for under 70 mg/dL.
