About Ear infection visit

An ear infection visit triages otitis media — fluid and infection behind the eardrum — and otitis externa — infection of the external canal. Many cases of acute otitis media in children resolve without antibiotics; treatment is guided by age, severity, and laterality, with amoxicillin first-line when indicated. Otitis externa responds to topical antibiotic-steroid drops with canal hygiene. Persistent symptoms, hearing loss, recurrent infections, ear drainage in a tympanostomy-tube patient, or severe pain warrant in-person ENT assessment.
