About Physical Therapy
Physical therapists evaluate movement and function and design individualized rehabilitation programs for orthopedic, neurologic, post-surgical, vestibular, pelvic floor, cardiopulmonary, and pediatric conditions. Treatment combines manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular re-education, modalities, and patient education focused on safe return to activity and self-management. Most U.S. states allow direct access to PT without a physician referral, though referrals are often helpful for insurance and clarifying the prescribing diagnosis.
