When insurance requires approval before covering a prescription or service.
Prior authorization (PA) means the insurer needs your prescriber to submit clinical justification before they'll pay. PAs are common for brand-name drugs, GLP-1s, biologics, and advanced imaging. Most are decided within 1-3 business days; the prescriber's office submits them.
