About Sports Medicine

Sports medicine physicians — primary care or orthopedic — manage musculoskeletal injuries and the medical care of active patients. They diagnose and treat sprains, strains, tendinopathies, stress fractures, concussions, exercise-induced asthma, overuse injuries, and biomechanical disorders. Care combines history, focused exam, point-of-care musculoskeletal ultrasound, image-guided injections, rehabilitation, and graded return-to-sport planning. Surgical referral is reserved for injuries that fail conservative management.
