Orthopedic surgeons diagnose and treat conditions of the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. Common care includes fracture management, sports injuries (ACL, rotator cuff, meniscus), arthritis with joint replacement when needed, spine disorders, hand and upper extremity conditions, foot and ankle problems, and pediatric orthopedic conditions. Many subspecialties exist — joint replacement, sports medicine, spine, hand, foot and ankle, trauma, and pediatric orthopedics — with both surgical and nonsurgical management options.
