Gastroenterologists diagnose and treat disorders of the esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas — including GERD, peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, hepatitis, fatty liver disease, pancreatitis, and gastrointestinal cancers. They perform endoscopic procedures including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy (both diagnostic and screening), ERCP, capsule endoscopy, and endoscopic ultrasound. Colonoscopy remains a cornerstone of colorectal cancer screening.
