Ondoc + Amazon Pharmacy: who writes the prescription, who delivers it

Amazon Pharmacy is one of the most convenient ways to receive medications, but it can't write a new prescription or renew an expired one. Ondoc is the licensed-provider layer that authorizes the prescription — then Amazon Pharmacy ships it to your door.

Frequently asked

Can Amazon Pharmacy write me a new prescription?

No. Amazon Pharmacy fulfills and ships prescriptions, but it does not employ prescribers who will evaluate you and write a new prescription or renew an expired one. You need a licensed clinician to authorize the prescription first — that's what Ondoc does. Once authorized, we send it to any pharmacy you choose, including Amazon Pharmacy.

How do I use Ondoc with Amazon Pharmacy?

Submit a refill or visit request on Ondoc and list Amazon Pharmacy as your preferred pharmacy. A licensed provider reviews your request, and once approved we transmit the prescription electronically to Amazon Pharmacy. Amazon then handles billing, dispensing, and shipping to your door.

Is Ondoc cheaper than Amazon Pharmacy's RxPass?

They cover different things. RxPass is a $5/month medication subscription for Prime members that gets you the actual generic pills. Ondoc is the visit and prescription-authorization layer — $50 per visit self-pay, or billed to your insurance. You can absolutely combine them: see a licensed provider on Ondoc and pick up the medication through Amazon Pharmacy or RxPass.

Does Amazon Pharmacy take insurance for the prescription itself?

Yes — Amazon Pharmacy accepts most major insurance plans for the medication cost. But the prescription has to exist first. Ondoc handles the clinical visit and writes the prescription; Amazon Pharmacy fills it.

What if my current Amazon Pharmacy prescription is about to expire?

Submit a refill request on Ondoc and we'll process the renewal under licensed-provider review, then fax or eRx it to Amazon Pharmacy so your delivery continues without a gap.
